Vessel log

Every vessel grouped by sign-on session. Name, call sign, IMO, and rank held at the time — kept clean and separated.

Port history

Ports sorted by latest departure, with a clear SIGNED OFF marker on the port where each voyage ended.

Offline nautical maps

Download coastal regions you'll actually need. Charts render with no signal — coastline, ports, and seamarks only.

Optional cloud sync

Sign in and your log travels with you across devices. Don't want it? Use Portside fully offline forever — no account needed.

Export & import

Your data is yours. Export the whole log as JSON or CSV anytime. Import it back into a fresh install without losing a thing.

Light and dark

Follows your system appearance — cream by day, deep nautical blue by night. Everything re-themes quietly.

The story

Built on an Android phone. In Termux. With AI as a coding partner.

Portside wasn't built on a laptop. Every line was written in Termux on the same phone I carry to work — no Android Studio, no desktop environment. Testing happens on the real device over WiFi ADB, and builds run from the command line with ./gradlew assembleDebug.

I'm a seafarer, not a classically trained developer. The code was written through iterative prompting with AI assistants — mostly DeepSeek, with ChatGPT and Claude handling the rest. I designed the app, chose the features, tested every build on my own device, and directed the process step by step.

Portside is a personal log, made by someone who actually needed one. That's the whole point.
